Pitch of sound high and low?

What is meant by high pitch and low pitch, i mean i know that if is a set of vibrations that have a high pitch and a set of vibrations have a low pitch the vibrations that have a high pitch will have faster or more frequent oscillations amirite? but why does sound like so high ? if you know what i mean why does more frequent oscillations give the sound a high sounding effect , basically what is meant by high , in terms of sound? i am getting confused ? help explain lol
